Positive v Ignorance
I have been thinking a lot about the idea of “staying positive” as a mantra in a world where the younger generations have inherited the greatest responsibility we could carry. The responsibility of revolution. The generations young enough to have articles written online about how our monolithic generational identity is to blame for whatever lobbying group is paying that month “[insert exploitive industry here] is dying because of [generation younger than the capital owning class]” , are more importantly faced with the inaction of those that came before us.
I consider myself a rather positive person, and maybe just in a non traditional way. I don’t feel the need or the desire to cast a haze over the reality of our world (Ignore the pile of books in the corner). A haze that takes the form of something more twisted than “looking at the silver lining” and becomes forcing a silver lining on those who suffer. My feelings of positivity manifests in wanting to be a positive force for the world and those around me. Holding the door for a stranger, thanking the waiter with sincerity, forgive people for mistakes, and advocating for those who need it.
Rage can be a positive force in the world, when I feel rage at the injustices in the world it comes from a place of human empathy. It can inspire myself and those around me to take action in a society of inaction, can that not be something has positive outcomes?
Willful ignorance about the common bonds of man through class and solidarity in an effort to avoid “negativity” about the negative and evil forces stacked against us.
Ignorance is bliss, but bliss is not positivity, and it is not enough to right the wrongs we all are subject to. Not enough to right the wrongs out of our control across the planet. Not enough to right the wrong that is inaction.
